Chattogram, Saturday, 28 June — A sudden “Pen Down Strike” by officials of the Customs Department has brought operations at Chattogram Port and all associated depots to a standstill since 6:00 AM this morning.
As part of the protest, routine customs functions have been suspended indefinitely, halting export and import vehicle movements under the jurisdiction of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA). No gate-in or gate-out activity has taken place since the strike began, effectively freezing port and depot operations.
The strike is part of a broader protest movement by the Customs, Excise, and VAT officers, who have voiced strong opposition to certain reforms proposed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The unrest has escalated in recent days, with officials threatening a full-scale shutdown of revenue services.
